Toowoomba Private Day Hospital Contract Termination FAQs
Toowoomba Private Day Hospital Contract Termination FAQs
When will the termination take effect?
The current contract will end effective 2 February 2026. Up until that date, Navy Health members will continue to receive their normal contracted hospital benefits at Toowoomba Private Day Hospital.
Why has the hospital terminated the current agreement?
Through our partnership with the Australian Health Service Alliance (AHSA), we maintain agreements with over 480 private hospitals across Australia including the Toowoomba Private Day Hospital. When the existing agreement came up for renewal, the hospital notified the Australian Health Service Alliance (AHSA) of its independent intention not to renew and to instead leave the existing agreement. Despite this, Navy Health, in conjunction with the AHSA, is doing all we can to reach a new agreement prior to termination.
What does this mean for Members after 1 February 2026?
After the contract ends on 2 February 2026:
- Navy Health will no longer have a contracted arrangement with Toowoomba Private Day Hospital.
- Members who choose to receive treatment there may face out-of-pocket costs, as the hospital can choose to charge above the benefits covered by Navy Health.
- We strongly encourage members to speak with their treating specialist about moving their treatment to an alternative, contracted hospital to avoid unexpected expenses.
Are there any transitional arrangements?
Yes, transitional arrangements may apply for:
- Those that are set to be admitted before 2 February.
- Treatments pre-booked before 2 February if the admission date is before 2 August 2026.
- Emergency admissions up to and including 1 May 2026.
These arrangements may allow members to continue care without additional costs, provided specific conditions are met. Please confirm with your treating specialist if these transitional arrangements apply to you.
What other hospitals in the Toowoomba region do you have agreements with?
There are three alternative hospitals, including:
- St Vincent’s Private Hospital Toowoomba
- Toowoomba Surgicentre
- St Andrew’s Toowoomba
You may also be able to be treated as a private patient at Toowoomba public hospital.
Are other hospitals affected?
No, this termination applies only to Toowoomba Private Day Hospital. All other contracted hospitals remain unchanged.
What is the role of AHSA in this?
When it comes to negotiating agreements with hospitals, Navy Health is represented by the Australian Health Service Alliance (AHSA). AHSA negotiates agreements with hospitals on behalf of over 20 not-for-profit, member-owned private health insurers.
Just like Navy Health, AHSA wants the members of these funds to be able to access quality and affordable private hospital services.
AHSA has successfully negotiated with other large private hospital groups and has put agreements in place with over 480 private hospitals nation-wide.
