Private health cover isn’t just for those times when you are sick or require hospitalisation. It may offer you a wide range of benefits that might contribute to your overall wellbeing. At Navy Health, we are committed to putting our members first, and believe in a proactive approach to health care. As a not-for-profit organisation, we are dedicated to ensuring our members are maximising the potential of their health cover by taking advantage of the various benefits and services on offer. In this guide, we will explore some of the ways you can make the most of your health cover beyond medical emergencies.
Plan your annual check-ups before the benefits limit reset
At Navy Health, benefit limits in our Extras products reset on 1 July each year. By planning your annual check-ups before this reset, you can ensure you are utilising your available benefits to their full extent. In each of our Extras products there is a set amount you can claim on health services such as physiotherapy, dental and chiropractic each year.
To keep track of your benefit limits and the value remaining throughout the year, we encourage you to download the Navy Health app. By doing so, you can effectively utilise any of your remaining Extra’s limits which are still available to you and take advantage of the quick claiming functionality.
For example, where the 1st of July is approaching and you see that you have $150 left in your natural therapy limits, you might consider scheduling a massage or acupuncture session with a qualified professional. While these Extras services might not be deemed essential emergency treatments, they can significantly contribute to enhancing your overall health and wellbeing long-term. You might also consider planning your treatments for the financial year to make sure you’re utilising all the claimable services on your policy.
By taking this proactive approach to your cover, you not only make the most out of your health cover but also invest in maintaining your physical and mental health.

Get 100% back on Optical*
At Navy Health, all members with Extras coverage will receive 100% back on prescription optical at all recognised providers up to the annual limit*. This includes cover for Single, Bifocal, and Multifocal lenses, frames, and contact lenses*. Depending on the level of cover you can pick up a new pair of glasses or sunglasses (or two!) every financial year to keep up with the ever-changing style trends. If you tend to misplace your glasses, having a spare pair at home can ensure you always have a pair on hand when you need them.
On top of this, Navy Health offers additional benefits for members who purchase their glasses or contact lenses from any of our preferred optical providers. Currently, our preferred optical providers include trusted names such as Specsavers, Bailey Nelson, OPSM, Laubman & Pank, Teachers Eye Care, Eyebenefit and QON.
Here’s a glimpse of some of the exclusive benefits you can enjoy when you choose one of these preferred providers:

*Optical benefit is payable where the lens includes a form of sight correction.
Know what you’re covered for
Having a comprehensive understanding of your Extras cover is fundamental to ensuring you are getting the most out of it. Did you know that with your Navy Health Extras you can claim for remedial massages under Natural Therapies, Physiotherapy Exercise under Physiotherapy*, and hypnotherapy under Psychology?* Surprisingly, this isn’t common knowledge to most members. While they might be aware of the broader service categories, the finer details of what falls under each aren’t often explored. We recommend you research what services you may be able to claim for under each of your covered services, as you may find unexpected inclusions you could benefit from. ‘
*Physiotherapy Exercise must be performed by a registered Physiotherapist.
*To check what you are covered for on your policy, download the Navy Health app or visit the relevant product pages on our website.
