Macquarie Hospital and IPHoA Contract Termination FAQs
When will the termination take effect?
The current contract with Macquarie Hospital Services and the IPHoA group of hospitals will end effective 16 March 2026. Up until this date, Navy Health Members will continue to receive their normal contracted hospital benefits at these hospitals.
Which hospitals are impacted?

- Eastern Suburbs Private Hospital
- Holroyd Private Hospital
- Longueville Private Hospital
- Manly Waters Private Hospital
- Minchinbury Community Private Hospital
- President Private Hospital
- The Sydney Private Hospital
VIC

- Malvern Private Hospital
Why has the hospital terminated the current agreement?
Through our partnership with the Australian Health Service Alliance (AHSA), Navy Health maintains agreements with over 480 private hospitals across Australia, including hospitals operated by Macquarie Hospital Services and the IPHoA group.
When the existing agreements came up for renewal, Navy Health, through AHSA, was unable to reach agreement with Macquarie Hospital Services and IPHoA on terms and conditions that we believe represent fair and reasonable charges for Members. These hospitals have therefore decided to terminate their agreements.
Navy Health and the AHSA remain committed to negotiating sustainable agreements with hospitals and other providers that help protect Members from rising healthcare costs.
What does this mean for Members after 15 March 2026?
After the contract ends at midnight on 15 March 2026, Members who choose to receive treatment at any of the impacted hospitals will face out-of-pocket costs, as the hospital can choose to charge above the benefits covered by Navy Health.
We strongly encourage Members to speak with their treating specialist about moving their treatment to an alternative, contracted hospital to avoid unexpected expenses.
If you are admitted for the first time after this date the hospital will need to gain your informed consent for any out-of-pocket costs they intend to charge prior to admission. We recommend you confirm costs with the hospital directly, as they have not advised what the new charges per service will be.
Are there any transitional arrangements in place if I have a procedure booked?
Yes, transitional arrangements may apply if:
- Your treatment commences prior to Monday, 16 March 2026
- You have pre-booked a procedure prior to 16 March 2026 and that admission will occur before 16 September 2026
- You are undergoing a course of treatment, and it ends prior to 16 September 2026.
These arrangements may allow Members to continue care without additional costs, provided specific conditions are met. Please confirm with your treating specialist if these transitional arrangements apply to you.
What other hospitals in the region do you have agreements with?
We encourage affected Members, to:
- Speak with their treating specialist about suitable alternative hospitals they have access to, and
- Contact Navy Health Member Services for assistance identifying contracted facilities nearby, or to receive a list of possible alternative hospitals.
You can also use Navy Health’s ‘Find Agreement Hospitals’ tool online to find alternative hospitals in your area that are under an agreement with the AHSA on behalf of Navy Health
What is the role of AHSA in this?
When it comes to negotiating agreements with hospitals, Navy Health is represented by the Australian Health Service Alliance (AHSA). AHSA negotiates agreements with hospitals on behalf of over 20 not-for-profit, member-owned private health insurers.
Just like Navy Health, AHSA wants the members of these funds to be able to access quality and affordable private hospital services
AHSA has successfully negotiated with other large private hospital groups and has put agreements in place with over 480 private hospitals nation-wide.
