Support Veterans & Enjoy Great Coffee — Enter for a Chance to Win!

We’re proud to announce our partnership with Wounded Heroes Australia, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting veterans, current serving ADF members, and their families during times of financial and mental health crisis. Founded in 2007, the organisation operates on the belief that no veteran should ever be left in crisis. They respond quickly and compassionately to emergencies ranging from homelessness and financial distress to mental health struggles and family breakdowns. Their 24/7 crisis support line ensures that help is never far away, and their practical assistance often makes the difference between despair and stability for those they serve. Wounded Heroes also plays an active role in advocacy and education, working closely with communities and stakeholders to improve veteran services and raise national awareness about the often-hidden challenges faced by those transitioning out of defence life.

As part of this initiative, Navy Health has teamed up with Wounded Heroes to create a limited run of Navy Health Coffee bags—a special edition of COFFEE4HEROES.

To shine a light on the cause behind the coffee, we spoke with Martin Shaw, President of Wounded Heroes Australia.

Q: Since you first started at Wounded Heroes Australia, what has been the biggest motivator in supporting ADF personnel, veterans, and their family?

A: “The biggest motivator has always been the urgency of the need. Every day, we’re contacted by veterans or their families in crisis—some facing homelessness, some battling mental health challenges, others just trying to keep the lights on or put food on the table. Since I started, it’s only become clearer that too many of our servicemen and women fall through the cracks when they return to civilian life. What keeps me going is knowing that even a small intervention—whether it’s paying a power bill or getting someone emergency accommodation—can be the turning point in someone’s life. That’s why we do what we do, and it’s why initiatives like our coffee program matter. They create awareness and generate the funding we need to respond quickly, with real impact.”

Q: In what ways does Wounded Heroes support those in need?

A: “Wounded Heroes supports current and former ADF personnel and their families through immediate, practical crisis assistance. That includes emergency housing, food vouchers, help with utility bills, and mental health support. We operate a 24/7 national crisis line, and we often respond within hours—not days or weeks—because when someone reaches out in crisis, time matters. Beyond financial help, we also offer case management to guide veterans through complex issues like homelessness, trauma recovery, and navigating government systems. Our goal is to stabilise their situation first, then help them rebuild their lives with dignity and support.”

Q: From your time at Wounded Heroes, what’s the biggest challenge ex-serving members face after leaving full-time service?

A: “The biggest challenge many ex-serving members face is the sudden loss of structure, identity, and support that came with military life. When you’ve spent years in a tight-knit, purpose-driven environment, transitioning to civilian life can feel isolating and overwhelming. Many veterans struggle to find stable housing, meaningful employment, or even access to the right mental health support. The system can be complex and hard to navigate, especially when you’re already under stress. That’s why Wounded Heroes steps in—to bridge that gap, offer immediate help, and walk alongside veterans as they rebuild their lives outside of service.”

At Navy Health, we’re proud to support those who’ve served. Our partnership with Wounded Heroes Australia is one way we’re giving back—and this giveaway is a way for you to join us.
