Navy Health is proud to offer an ongoing 10% ADF discount on health cover for serving ADF members and their families; Veteran DVA Cardholders, ADF Active Reservists (SERCAT 3-5) as well as their spouse, partner, and underage dependents listed on the same policy.
Whether you are currently serving, transitioning out of the Defence or have an immediate family member in the Australian Defence Force, Navy Health offers a range of health cover options competitively priced to suit your needs. As an acknowledgement of your current or previous service within the Australian Defence Force, we’ll apply a 10% discount to your payable premiums give that valid DVA or active reservist documentation are provided.
Veteran Cardholder Discount
If you previously served in the ADF and are now a veteran White or Gold Cardholder, you are eligible for a 10% discount off your premiums if you join Navy Health.
To apply for the Veteran Discount, you will need to send an email to DVACardHolder@navyhealth.com.au with your membership number, full name, and a copy of your Veteran White or Gold card.
If you hold a Veteran Gold Card, you are already covered for a broad range of treatments and services by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. As such, you may no longer require private health insurance. Members who hold a Veteran Gold Card have the option of cancelling their private health insurance; however, some choose to retain their cover for tax purposes or personal reasons. If you are unsure about the coverage provided by a Veteran Gold Card, please contact The Department of Veterans’ Affairs on 1800 838 372.
Veteran Gold Card holders: What if I choose to retain my Navy Health cover?
- You are eligible for a 10% discount on your policy.
- Navy Health will contribute towards out-of-pocket costs incurred after the Veteran card payment. The benefit paid by Navy Health will be within the benefits and annual limits applicable to your level of cover.
- You will be able to choose your specialist and the hospital you prefer to receive treatment.
- If you hold one of our Extras policies, benefits are available for certain alternative therapies not recognised by DVA.

Serving ADF Members Discount
Navy Health rewards serving Australian Defence Force personnel with a discount on their private health cover. If you are currently serving full-time and have health cover for your family, you are entitled to a 10% discount on your premiums.
You can cover yourself and your family in a variety of ways depending on your situation:
- Families with one serving member and a civilian partner can opt to take out a single parent policy.
- Families with two serving members can also opt to change their membership to a dependants only policy.
- Partners of serving members may take out a single person membership if they don’t have underage dependents. Once the serving person is ready to discharge, they can add themselves to the membership and upgrade it to a couples policy.
To qualify for a 10% serving member discount you must be a spouse, partner, or underage dependant of a current full-time serving ADF member. Premiums must be paid via direct debits. Fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, six-monthly, and annual payment frequencies are all available with this discount.

ADF Active Reservists Discount
ADF Reservists are also entitled to a 10% reduction on health cover premiums with Navy Health. If you are an Active Reservist (SERCAT 3-5) and are covered under the policy, we will be able to apply this discount to your membership. Premiums must be paid via direct debits. Monthly, quarterly, six-monthly, and annual payment frequencies are all available with this discount.
To have this discount applied, please send through an official document showing your full name, your PMKeys number, and your SERCAT status (must be SERCAT 3-5) to sales@navyhealth.com.au.
Defence Contractor that has previously served in the ADF
If you have previously served in the ADF, are a DVA card holder and have worked or currently work for a company that supplies goods or serves to the Defence Forces you’re entitled to a slightly higher discount in your first year of membership with Navy Health.
When you speak to our sales team and let them know the name of the company and we’ve verified they are part of the Defence Industry you’ll be eligible for 5% off your premiums and 4 weeks free after three months of membership. After the 4 weeks free has been applied, we’ll increase the discount on your premiums to 10%.
To be eligible for the 10% Veteran Discount after the 4 weeks free has been applied, you will need to send an email to DVACardHolder@navyhealth.com.au with your membership number, full name, and proof of Veteran status by providing a copy of your Veteran card.
