Ambulance Cover
All Navy Health policies provide the same level of comprehensive ambulance cover. You will be covered Australia wide for air, sea, or land services, provided by a state/territory registered ambulance service. Private ambulance or patient transport services, such as Flying Doctor Services or Care Flight, are not covered.

Does my policy cover me for all ambulance services such as treatment, road, and air?
Yes – Navy Health will cover 100% of the cost. This is provided that the service is from an Australian state/territory registered ambulance provider and deemed medically necessary. Private ambulance or patient transport services are not covered.
Does my policy cover all emergency transport?
Yes – Emergency transport is covered*.
*Provided that the service is from an Australian state/territory registered ambulance provider and deemed medically necessary. Private ambulance or patient transport services are not covered.
What is the funds’ definition of an emergency?
Navy Health defines an emergency as any condition that requires immediate medical attention as an urgent, sudden, and serious event, or an unforeseen change in circumstance that necessitates immediate action to remedy harm or avert imminent danger to life, health, or property.
What if I am not admitted to hospital after ambulance care and transport?
Navy Health covers call out fees provided that the service is from an Australian state/territory registered ambulance provider and deemed medically necessary. Private ambulance or patient transport services are not covered.
If someone calls an ambulance for me, but I do not require ambulance care, will I be covered for the cost of an ambulance call out?

Am I covered for non-emergency transport?
Yes – you will be covered for any ambulance transport that is deemed medically necessary*.

If I require ambulance services while interstate, will I be covered?
Yes – you are covered Australia wide*.

If I require transport by ambulance from an interstate hospital, will I be covered?
Yes – you are covered for transport between hospitals that is organised by the hospital*.
*Provided that the service is from an Australian state/territory registered ambulance provider and deemed medically necessary. Private ambulance or patient transport services are not covered.
Do exclusions exist under my policy? If yes, what are they?
You will not be covered if:
• You call the ambulance service by mistake, i.e. you should have called police or emergency services.
• The service was not provided by a State/Territory registered ambulance provider. Navy Health does not cover private ambulance and patient transport services.
• You use the Ambulance service to get to private doctor appointments. You cannot use the Ambulance as a taxi service.
How do I submit an ambulance claim?
