Navy Health is committed to ensuring members can access quality and affordable private hospital services. Through our partnership with the Australian Health Service Alliance (AHSA), we have agreements with over 480 private hospitals across Australia. These agreements set the prices you pay, and the quality of services you receive, in these hospitals.
Some of these agreements are with Healthscope hospitals, which are owned by North American Private Equity firm Brookfield. These hospitals provide a range of medical, surgical, psychiatric, and rehabilitation services across Australia. We have provided a list of these hospitals below.
Healthscope entered into an agreement with Navy Health and many other funds in March 2024 through AHSA, based on what we agreed as fair terms of payment for hospital procedures. Subsequently, Healthscope sought to impose an additional hospital fee on our Members, in breach of the agreement.
To ensure members were protected against additional fees, we commenced a dispute resolution processes with Healthscope. As a result, Healthscope will no longer impose the additional hospital fee, but have instead decided to terminate our agreement, and the agreements with many other health funds effective from 4th March 2025. However, we want to reassure you that this development does not currently affect how you can use your Navy Health benefits at Healthscope hospitals.
If you require treatment at a Healthscope hospital after this date, you may be subject to significant out-of-pocket costs. We recommend discussing alternative arrangements with your doctor, so you are prepared to transition to a hospital that holds an agreement with Navy Health, should it become necessary.
Please note that certain transitional arrangements apply with respect to:
• If your treatment commenced prior to 4th March 2025,
• If you have pre-booked a procedure, or
• Patients who are already undergoing a course of treatment.
We apologise for any inconvenience you might experience as a result of Healthscope terminating its agreement with Navy Health given that we have been unable to reach an agreement on what we believe are fair and reasonable costs for Navy Health Members, who will always be our priority.
Should you have any further questions regarding the situation with Healthscope, or if you require additional information, please don’t hesitate to call our Member Services team on 1300 306 289.
Thank you for trusting Navy Health with your healthcare needs. We remain committed to supporting you through this process and ensuring your access to quality healthcare remains uninterrupted. Should the circumstances outlined above change, we will be certain to let you know.
