Health Insurance
At Navy Health, we are dedicated to protecting those who protect us, their families, and everyone who plays a part in making that happen.
If you are on the lookout for private health insurance with a not-for-profit health fund that puts its members before profits and offers excellent value products, you have come to the right place.
Switching to Navy Health is easier than you think, we will assist you throughout the entire process! We’ll cancel your previous cover and waive waiting periods for services already covered. All you will need to worry about is choosing the right cover for you or your family.
Choose the cover that suits your needs
We offer a range of great value Hospital products for when you want to avoid the public wait list and be covered for treatments in a private hospital, and Extras products for your everyday health care services like dental, physio, and optical.
Choosing the right level of cover for you or your family is an important decision that depends on your health priorities, lifestyle, and budget. You should start by considering your current and future health needs to determine which services are important to you. For example, are you planning on having children? Do you wear glasses?
Once you have identified what’s important for you or your family, our Member Services team will be able to help you review and compare the cover options available and assist you in selecting the product that best suits your needs, ensuring you are covered for the services that matter most to you. Simply call us on 1300 306 289 during business hours, and we’ll be ready to assist.
We’ll cancel your previous cover
If you would prefer, we can let your previous insurer know to cancel your policy, so you won’t have to worry about telling them yourself.
To begin this process, we will request a Transfer Certificate from your previous fund on your behalf. A Transfer Certificate shares with us information about the previous policy you held including the level of cover, waiting periods served, commencement and end dates, and claims history so that we can easily apply this information to your new policy with Navy Health.
This request notifies your previous fund you are switching health funds, therefore, to cancel your cover with them and send the Transfer Certificate to us. This prompts them to cease any further payments and process a refund to your nominated account, if applicable.
Your previous health fund has up to 14 days to complete the cancellation and provide the Transfer Certificate. Therefore, if a regular payment is due with your previous fund within that 14-day period, we recommend you remove or update your banking details online, if possible, to stop that payment taking place. Additionally, any money paid in advanced or owed from your old fund will be refunded.
We’ll waive waiting periods for services already covered
Upon receiving the Transfer Certificate from your previous fund, we’ll begin applying the relevant information onto your policy with us.
If you’re transferring to Navy Health from another Australian Registered Private Health Insurer with an equivalent or lower level of cover, we will honour your history of served waiting periods including those that have been partially served. All you’ll need to do is serve the remaining time rather than starting again! If you have completed your waits for the same level of cover with your previous insurer, we’ll waive all waiting periods on your Navy Health cover for services you were already covered and claiming for!
While you won’t have to re-qualify for the same coverage you had with your previous insurer, normal waiting periods will apply to any services that were not included in your previous insurer’s coverage. When switching health funds, specific items within our services may be subject to additional waiting periods.
When switching health funds, timing is important. If you decide to join Navy Health more than 30 days after leaving your previous health insurer, all waiting periods will reapply. So, we recommend you plan your transfer carefully to avoid waiting to claim.
Upcoming procedure
If you have an upcoming hospital procedure, we can expedite your Transfer Certificate so that you can use your benefits sooner. This ensures you can have the peace of mind knowing you will be covered even if you decide to switch shortly before the procedure takes place.
Our Member Services team is there to help you through this process. Please get in touch with them to discuss any upcoming procedures you have, and they will be by your side every step of the way.
Enjoying the benefits of your cover straight away
When you join on a combined Hospital and Extras cover, we will waive the 2&6 month waits on your Extras at the time of joining. This means that you can claim those benefits straight away, through the Navy Health mobile app!
