Motivation is the driving force of change. If we want to improve ourselves, grow and thrive in life, motivation plays a big part. However, we don’t always feel motivated, and that drive can sometimes be hard to get going.
Motivation isn’t like a switch that you turn on and off, it is something that needs to be worked on and find different ways to keep it on track.
Set goals
“The thing about goals is that living without them is a lot more fun, in the short run. It seems to me, though, that the people who get things done, who lead, who grow and who make an impact… those people have goals.” —Seth Godin
Goals give you a direction and a purpose. Success is also more likely to be a reality if goals are set. Break down big goals into smaller achievable wins, as this will motivate you to keep going. Small goals are as important as big ones, since these are easier to achieve on a regular basis, which means we can set them more often, and constantly see ourselves getting better. This is the key to keeping motivated.
Spend time with positive people
“May you reach that level within, where you no longer allow your past or people with toxic intentions to negatively affect or condition you.” — Lalah Delia
Positive people energise you, while negative people can lower your energy. Spend time with people that have a positive attitude towards life, and their good energy will overflow to you also. You can also spend time with people that inspire you and ask them questions on how they have achieved their goals. Alternatively, you can read books or listen to podcasts that teach tools that can help you to stay focused.
Be kind to yourself about your failures
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill.
Finding motivation when everything is going well can be easy, however motivation can seem harder when we encounter setbacks. Setbacks in life are inevitable. Use these stumbling blocks as tools to further drive you and as important life lessons.
Declutter your life
“In the never-ending battle between order and chaos, clutter sides with chaos every time. Anything that you possess that does not add to your life or your happiness eventually becomes a burden.” — John Robbins
Clutter can make you feel lethargic and unmotivated.1 Declutter your workplace or home and release anything that you don’t need or haven’t used for a while. Decluttering your space will allow you to think clearly and be more focused and productive.
