Part 1: Student Specific Questions
My dependant is over 25, has a Young Adult Membership Extras policy with Navy Health, and is still a full-time student. Can they rejoin my policy?
Yes! All you need to do is fill out a student declaration form online, and we’ll arrange for them to return to your policy. Once they have contacted us and given permission we will cancel their YAM Extras cover. Keep in mind that waiting periods may apply if they were on a lower level of cover than your family membership.
If my dependant didn’t take up a Young Adult Membership Extras policy with Navy Health but is a full-time student over 25, can they still be on my policy?
Yes! All you need to do is fill out a student declaration form online, and we’ll arrange for them to return to your policy. Keep in mind that waiting periods may apply if they were on a lower level of cover than your family membership.
My dependant is under 31, studying full time but lives independently. Can they still stay on my policy?
Yes, as long as they’re a full-time student and you’ve submitted a student declaration form online.
My dependant is no longer a full-time student. What are my options?
If they are under the age of 27, they may be eligible to take up a Young Adult Membership Extras policy with us. To learn more and check eligibility visit our YAM page.
If they are 27 or older then they must take out their own independent cover. Explore cover options and get a quote here.
Can I backdate a student declaration for my dependant?
Student declarations cannot be backdated. It’s important to submit the declaration as soon as your dependant becomes a full-time student.
I have Extras-only cover. How does this change affect me?
If your dependant is under 31 and a full-time student, they can stay on your policy with a student declaration. All you need to do is fill out a student declaration form online. If they’re not a full-time student, they’ll need their own cover.
Part 2: Young Adult Membership Specific Questions
My dependant has already left my policy but is still eligible for a Young Adult Membership. Can they join again?
Yes! All you need to do is fill out a Young Adult Membership form online, and we’ll add them back to your hospital cover. Keep in mind that waiting periods will apply since there’s been a gap in their cover.
If my dependant has a Young Adult Membership Extras policy, will they automatically stay on my hospital cover until 27?
Yes. As long as they maintain their YAM. When their 27th birthday approaches, we’ll contact them to discuss their options for adding hospital cover to their policy.
What happens if my dependant turns 27 during the policy year?
Your dependant will be removed from your hospital cover on their 27th birthday. We’ll contact them near that time with hospital cover options to add onto their own YAM.
Part 3: General Questions
What happens if my dependant has a gap in their cover?
If your dependant has a break in their cover and rejoins your policy, waiting periods may apply for certain benefits. Contact us for specific details about your situation.
How do I update my policy for these changes?
Call us on 1300 306 289. We’ll guide you through the process and let you know what documents are needed and how to complete them.
Will these changes affect my premiums?
Possibly. Adding a dependant to your policy might increase your premium. Contact us to discuss the details and go through your options.
Will the changes apply to existing policies immediately or only for new policies?
These changes will apply from 1 March 2025, and will be applicable to both new and existing memberships.
Will we receive a refund if my full-time student dependant had to take out their own YAM policy before this update?
These changes take effect from 1 March 2025 and apply to all Navy Health members moving forward. Unfortunately, no refunds will be issued for policies taken out prior to this date.
