What’s an excess?

Excesses apply to the cost of in-patient hospitalisation in either a private, public or day hospital facility.  Excesses are payable per membership and are deducted from the first or subsequent claims for hospitalisation. The more you agree to pay as an excess, the lower your regular cover contribution will be.

How are Navy Health’s excesses applied?

For singles, the excess is payable once in any 12 month period, so from the day you go into hospital, Navy Health will not charge another excess for a minimum of 12 months.

For families, the excess is payable for each admission up to a family maximum, in any 12 month period.

Does the excess apply to Extras such as optical or physiotherapy?

No, an excess is not applied to Extras claims, however, out-of-pocket expenses may apply.
